Lost in Lego Land

Brett and I trade date nights with some friends of ours, and last night was our chance to go out. We decided to head out and get the boys their Easter presents. A few weeks ago, the boys discovered Legos. To my surprise, they sat there and played with them the entire day--quietly. Colin sat with the instructions that came with the box, and recreated as many items as he could.

Our only problem was we didn't have enough pieces to make everything. This problem was compounded by the fact that the boys refused to dismantle anything once it was made. So Brett and I decided to add to our Lego collection for Easter. We considered just buying a box of basic bricks, but when we looked at what actually came in the box, we decided against it. Instead we headed down to the M.O.A for a visit to Lego Land. There they have pick-a-brick. Basically you grab a container and stuff it full of what ever Lego pieces you want. I had so much fun watching Brett while he did this, it was like watching a kid in a candy store. My favorite part was watching Brett and comparing him to all the younger kids doing the same thing. Brett decided he wanted to get the pieces needed to make 6 cars. So, he sat there and counted out all the pieces into the container. As soon as he was finished, this kid, probably around 8 years old, walked up to the bin with the tires in it, grabbed a handful, and placed them in his container, without even looking to see how many he had just grabbed. What a difference 20 years makes. When we were done, our containers were overflowing with every imaginable type of Lego. As it turned out, this had to be one of the funnest dates Brett and I have ever been on. Who knew you could have so much fun with Legos?

So funny! I can just imagine what Neil would do in a store like that. He still has Star Wars planes that he made as a kid and he refuses to take them apart.
