Down the Tubes

After a morning at the Sliding Centre, and thanks to Grandma Lana's willingness to stay home by the fire while Evan napped, we were able to go up to the Whistler Tube Park with the kids. It's a part of the ski resort that is sectioned off and groomed for tubing.

Basically, there are two starting points: one half-way up, and another at the top. To get up, you walk part of the way up, and then a moving walkway (the "magic carpet") takes you up the rest of the way.

We started by taking a run from the half-way point in order to ease the kids into it. It turns out that this wasn't necessary at all, because they were total daredevils.

Each time the kids got to the bottom of the run (you could only go one person at a time, and the kids always wanted to go first), they didn't want to wait for us to come down. So they kept running off towards the moving walkway by themselves. The problem was that the tubes were heavy, and it was difficult for the kids to pull them as far as they needed to. So instead of waiting for us to come down and pull the tubes for them, they would turn on the cuteness factor and enlist total strangers to pull their tubes for them. We discouraged this, but the kids were too excited to care what we had to say. They found lots of willing helpers! After all, who could resist this?

After two hours of tubing (which was all we had paid for), Colin was nowhere near being done. This led to a very unhappy Colin!

Sorry, Colin! Maybe we can tube longer next time!
